Who knew that you could still get away with wearing your denim shorts in the fall.  I was born in Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean, and although I spent most of my teen and adult life in New York City, I have never gotten used to any cold weather.  We are well into October, and I know it’s time to face the music:  it’s about to get seriously chilly.  But before you start packing away all your beloved summer pieces, I’m here to introduce you to the idea that your favorite denim shorts can still be kept in the rotation for the next couple of months.

Denim shorts in the cold season has definitely translated into a trend over the past couple of years.  Since fashion is all about mixing pieces that you wouldn’t normally wear together and making them look fabulous, you could imagine the various ways that you can continue to wear your denim shorts in the fall.  In the summer, we practically live in some denim shorts as they practically work with just about everything in our wardrobe.  Now that fall is here, we should not be too eager to give them up, and the good news is, we don’t have to.

Denim shorts are actually great transitional pieces as we adjust our wardrobes for those brisk autumn days.  One such way to keep rocking your denim shorts is to style them with your favorite blazer.  First, you have to start with the right pair of shorts of course.  Pay close attention to picking the right length and width for your shorts.   My tip for you is to find something that you are comfortable in.  Too tight, and your shorts simply looks trashy on you.  However, too baggy, then it makes you look like you simply don’t care.  A great fit will always make you feel comfortable and confident.

Now to find the right blazer.  Finding that perfect blazer is truly up to your personal style.  Do you like the preppy or laid back look.  As I have said many times before, thrift stores are your best friends when it comes to finding blazers at ridiculously low prices.  You also get so many various styles and cuts, that you can experiment with various blazers without breaking the bank.

As a very busy mom, I love having a quick outfit that I can throw together on the weekends while running around with the kids.  My son plays on a travel soccer team and my Saturdays in the fall, are spent largely attending his matches.  Wanting to stay comfortable but always put together, my denim shorts with blazer is  go to choice for me.  I thrifted these J Crew denim shorts in a Goodwill in the state of Kentucky last summer while we moving from the west coast to east coast.  Yes, I thrift every and anywhere.   These shorts set me back $3 after a military discount.

I paired these shorts with this sleeveless floral top that I picked up in the clearance section at Macy’s for $11.  Finally, I added this white Zara blazer to complete this look.  This is an end of season clearance purchase, only $19.99.  It originally retailed at $69.99.  I love how the white blazer pulls together the denim cutoffs and the floral sleeveless top. As I wore this look to a soccer game, I completed the look with these white Converse from DSWDSW is one of my absolutely favorite places to get footwear.  Their prices are definitely amazing, and their coupons make shopping there even better.  Using my points, and coupons, I paid only $29 for these Converse.  Finally, I added this blush pink cross body purse that I purchased from Marshalls.  You have seen this purse styled here before.  It was only $9.99 and a practicable accessory that goes with most outfits.

  1. Who knew! The weather isn’t quite as cold here yet so I can still get away with wearing shorts this early in the season. Why not, when it’s super comfy and you can easily pair it with some sneakers! I love how you styled this outfit!

  2. I haven’t tried my denim shorts in the fall, but I have a longer pair that I think I might try for tomorrow, with a jacket. Our weather is cool in the morning and warm n the afternoon. Might be a good combination for tomorrow.

  3. It’s so hot where I live that shorts are almost a most year round. You look cute and now I may just say yes to my daughter’s request to wear fall in the winter.

  4. Denim shorts are definitely a blast from the past. I like that they can be dressed up or down and they are still appropriate here in New York City since the temperatures are still in the high 70s and 80s.

  5. In Arizona denim shorts is definitely a fall thing too! I love this look paired with a floral top. We’re all about the layers during this time of year to give us some sort of seasonal feel but when it gets warm we are peeling back to tanks and shorts.

  6. Denim shorts are one of those pieces you can transition from summer to fall. I remember in high school wearing short in the fall with tights or legging/tights. I used to love that trend, might be time to bring it back.

  7. Love the look of denim shorts in the fall. The weather can be weird this time of year. Somedays it chilly, some days it still feels like summer. These shorts pair well with fall weather because you can layer them with jackets or cardigans.
