I have officially returned from my hiatus. Honestly, I am not even sure how a planned one week break from blogging turned into a four-month hiatus from the blogging world. But, this is my return! I’m pumped to show off some awesome styled outfits from my favorite thrift, consignment, vintage and retail stores, such as this funky tuxedo tail coat. I am also in the process on working on some very cool projects that bring a lot of my various passions together. I think my excitement on working on these projects will keep me focused on growing this blog.
At the end of the day, I truly believe in having a great sense of style without breaking the bank. Additionally, the confidence that one exudes when they know they look great, is powerful. I was reminded of this confidence lately, and it feels great to have the support of my not so silent partners in the background pushing me to do what I love best! I hope you can join me on this journey, (again), and I promise to make it insightful, fun and full of “divatude“. In April, I visited NYC to celebrate turning the big THREE FIVE! I know, time is definitely speeding up on me, but I still feel very young at heart. I guess that is what we are supposed to say when we know we are getting older. But, that’s ok, I am happily embracing it.
I grew up in NYC and while I don’t always miss it, especially during the months of October through March, I cannot say that I don’t miss it at all. I miss the opportunities to simply express yourself through fashion. Don’t get me wrong. You don’t need a particular city to be able to be a fashionable diva. But there is something about NYC that simply inspires an open look of fashion.
So, in April, I did as they say, “when in Rome, do as the Romans,” and rocked this outfit to happy hour in the heart of SoHo. This outfit’s statement piece is obviously the funky sleeveless tuxedo tailcoat that I purchased from Zoe’s Vintique in Los Angeles for $25. It’s very unique, edgy and so ME! It definitely stayed in my outfit for a while before I figured out the perfect way to wear it.
Wanting the tuxedo tail coat to be the center of attention, I paired it with these cutoff denim shorts that I have had for ages, purchased from a Gap Outlet for less than $10. Remember, don’t sleep on the outlets. A simple sleeveless chiffon blouse from Forever 21 brought the outfit together.
I styled this outfit with these super comfortable, leather open-toe booties that I purchased months ago from Nordstrom Rack on clearance. At a price of $21 for leather booties, you can definitely say that I scored on that purchase.
Add some accessories and this bucket bag, and I felt like I was a New York native! Capturing this chic outfit is my awesome friend and amazing photographer, Antoinette Charles. You should definitely check out her beautiful work here.
Is there a statement piece that you are dying to style?
