skirt look + tulle dress

DSC_4622 I love this “skirt look” although it’s a tulle dress.  I have been searching in every thrift and consignment shop for a tulle skirt.   It is has been a constant on my thrift wish list for several months now.

Of course, I can easily buy this type of skirt at most retail stores, but you guys know that I am about the savings!  I refuse to pay a lot of money for an item where the actual material is really quite cheap.  If I could only sew, I can probably make about ten tulle skirts for about $20.  Might be exaggerating there, but seriously, tulle itself is very cheap!

This weekend however, as I was going through my closet in preparation of my upcoming fashion exchange, I came across this dress that I had thrifted from Buffalo Exchange for $8.00 several months ago.   I had not worn the dress yet because it is a spaghetti strap dress.   I have nothing against spaghetti straps, but it’s always a hassle for me  to find the right undergarments.  Read between the lines there :).

However, I realized that I had my skirt look if I added a shirt over it.  I paired the cream colored tulle dress with this beautiful bright blue colored shirt from Sheinside.com on clearance for $9.99.  The outfit felt just right once put together.  Some awesome heels and great accessories, and I had completed the perfect “skirt look” using a dress!

  1. You looks so cute in this and isn’t it great that you thought about adding the shirt, it really jazzes up the dress and covers up what needs to be covered up. I can’t wait to see what you get at the fashion exchange.

  2. I love how you used this dress and made it look like a skirt. I wish I knew how to sew too. I would love to be able to make clothes for myself and my kids. I also want to make curtains.

    1. in LOVE with that skirt! I have been wanting a tulle skirt, but don’t want to add any extra bulk if you know what I mean haha. This is the perfect solution!

  3. LOVE this look. I’ve never thought to pair a dress with a skirt like that. I’ve searched for a maxi length tulle skirt forever and just cannot find one. Maybe this is the route I’ll need to go.

  4. You are too cute! I have a light blue tulle skirt that I’m obsessed with these days – I love that you paired the dress with a shirt – perfect solution!

  5. What a wonderful tulle dress – and a terrific idea to style it as a skirt! I need to try that more often with some of my dresses. Amazing nude pumps, too!

    1. Rochelle,
Thank you!!!! It was the first time that I had paired a dress with a shirt like that, but I am definitely happy I did. I can probably save a few dresses that were heading out the door now. lol.

    1. Leanna,
There is never a need to break the bank on any clothes, my mantra. Keep an eye out for it though, because once you see it, you will need to move quickly. I think everyone has their eyes out for a tulle skirt these days. lol.

    1. Ada,
You are too sweet! Thank you. The shoes I actually got on clearance for $12 from Macys. Can you believe that. They are I.N.C. brand and for that thrifty price, I was soooooo excited.

  7. Don’t get me started on undergarnments…

I have a maxi dress that I generally wear only with a shirt or tee on top because it has the racer back and I am not even remotely a fan of seeing bra on backside. I know, I know there are special bras for that now too. Anyway…

I think actually adding the shirt gives this skirt (dress) more oomph. And your earrings are gorgeous.

    1. Alex,
Hahahah. Girl, I am right there with you. Not a fan of seeing bra straps on anything, or person. I also don’t know why I don’t just invest in a convertible bra — just laziness I think. Thanks for the compliment. I got the earrings at Charming Charlies. Not sure if you guys have one of those stores over there on your side of the world.
