This week, Keren Charles of Two Stylish Kays, and I, are showing off our thrifted plaid! Check out Keren’s blog to see how she styled her plaid outfit.
I have to admit that I don’t really own many plaid pieces mainly because I often have difficulties styling them. Yes, that’s right. I have styling challenges too! But, thanks to my fashion rescue, Pinterest, I am able to style snatch some awesome ideas.
I thrifted this plaid crop top from a store here in San Diego, Frock You Vintage, for $5. I have actually never seen a plaid crop top before. Figured this was unique enough to give it a try. I love the exposed zipper detail near the shoulders and the subtle pops of yellow in the striping.
As I was heading out for the evening, I added a long sleeve, high-lo chiffon blouse underneath. It’s still rather warm in San Diego during the summer, but in the evenings, it does call for some long sleeves. This blouse is a great example of how to transition your summer pieces to the fall.
Since I was feeling the “fall” vibe, I paired the blue plaid shirt with these Faded Glory maroon tights/jeggings that I have had since last season. Can I tell you how much I love these tights. I purchased them for $11 and have them in about four different colors. While writing this post, I noticed that they are on clearance for $3.98 right now. They are the right amount of thickness, the color is still awesome after many washes and they are so comfy. Definitely my best tights hands down. You should definitely check them out!
Completing the outfit is these Kenneth Cole booties that I thrifted from Goodwill for $17 and a JustFab pocketbook. I liked how this outfit came out and can definitely see myself rocking plaid a little more. I guess I need to add plaid to the thrift wish list moving forward.
What are your tips to getting over styling challenges?

Edwige,
Thank you! I am glad you approve..lol. Styling that plaid crop top was very difficult at first and didn’t know if I truly pulled off the look until after I saw the pics.
Fabulous, the combination of the plaid and burgundy tights is awesome
Bernadette,
Thank you! I have seen a lot of bloggers using those colors as the fall trend and figured I would give it a try.

Loving the plaid ladies!
Wendy,
Thank you!
One of my favorite things about you is how you mix and match patterns and bold colors so effortlessly! I LOVE your style <3
Angelic,
I love colors and would only wish more women would embrace it. I think it definitely brings an outfit to another level if we incorporate colors and patterns. Thank you for stopping by.
I am so impressed with your thrifting skills again!! Those booties are my favorite from this look and what a steal at $17. Love how you styled that plaid crop top, too!

Gina,
Yes, the booties are AWESOME and can I tell you — comfortable. I actually shopped in those booties for several hours and no complaints. Thanks for stopping by.
This is such a fun and comfy looking outfit. I like your shoes a lot.
Fi,
Definitely comfortable. I too LOVE the shoes. The shoes were actually just sitting in a large bin in the store. Love a great find.
I LOVE plaid. I hoard it, seriously. I love the layering of that plaid top!
Chelsea,
Hahaha. That is funny! I don’t hoard it because I am always a little confused as how to style it. But I think that I might try adding a few more pieces to my closet for this fall and winter. Thank you for stopping by.
That plaid crop is awesome, especially for the shoulder details! Honestly I have very few plaid items as well. A scarf (or maybe two), a pair of slip ons (or maybe two) and one shirt. That’s it. What I would really really love to have is a plaid skirt.
Anyway, I think you resolved your style challenge quite fine 🙂 My style challenge is to not be boring myself with the same old tired looks 😛

Until recently I would not have put the combination together. But after seeing a few great bloggers style it, I was ready to give it a go. Thanks for the sweet compliment.

Candace,
Thank you!
I have issues with plaids, too! I think I only have one or two plaid shirts. Those jeggings look super comfy though! I have a couple pairs and I love them.
Jenna,
The jeggings are super comfortable. I love them!!!!1
rocking it!! I’m not a big plaid but YOU might just be the one to convert me! 😉
Annie,
Yay….love that you might try it. You don’t have to go overboard just a couple of pieces. Thanks for the sweet comliment.
Such a cute outfit! I think I love everything about it and I love how you pulled it off! Love the color combos and those booties are AWESOME!!
Nice color combo, I love the bag!
Jessica,
Thank you! The bag is from JustFab!
LOVE that crop top, especially the zipper detail. I’m not really a crop top kinda gal, but that is so cute!
Cassie,
I have never worn the crop top by itself as I too don’t really wear crop tops. But figured, adding the shirt underneath won’t make me look like a teeny bopper.
Girl you nailed it! I’m so impressed with your thrifted outfits– you’re an expert! Awesome look.

Daisy,
Thank you!!!! So very sweet of you. I love thrifting, so it definitely makes shopping for these finds very easy for me.
That plaid would also look great with jeans! I love how you put the shirt underneath it 🙂
Winter,
You are absolutely right! I did in fact try it with jeans but settled on the tights to show some different color combinations. Inspiration is the key to the posts.
Love this look Ayana.Such a creative and fun look.
Adanna,
