I know that velvet may have gotten a bad reputation in the past for being an itchy fabric that “moms” wear. But, give it a second chance. Velvet is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious materials out there, and this fall/winter season, it made an impact on the Milan and London runways.
A velvet dress or skirt certainly makes for a high-impact evening look, but you should know that I am going to wear what I want, when the mood strikes. That means I’m endorsing velvet for day looks. Layered over this beautiful blouse, this gorgeous deep purple velvet blazer looks so chic.
I thrifted this Guess Marciano velvet blazer from the Goodwill in San Diego for $7.25, but this blazer originally retailed for $256. Now that is certainly a score, won’t you say? The rich purple color is absolutely gorgeous and can easily go from day to evening without much fuss. Underneath the blazer is this blush pink colored blouse that you have seen here before. The large floral pieces at the neck line simply adds that touch of elegance when paired with this blazer.
Since I wanted the purple blazer to be the statement piece, I opted for monotone blush pink top and bottom. I got these skinny pants from TJ Maxx a few years ago in the clearance section for $15.
I completed this look with these fierce purple jewel pumps by Thalia Sodi sold only at Macy’s. I first saw these pumps during the holiday season and really wanted to purchase a pair. However, I wasn’t ready to part with a $100 for them just yet. As I waited out the holiday season, sure enough, they went on clearance. Several mark downs later, I finally purchased them for a whopping $18. Being a Thrifting Diva means that you practice the art of patience all the time!
I hope you are now inspired to add ta velvet piece to your thrift wish list. This luxurious fabric is perfect for wintertime, especially in rich jewel tones and mixing velvet items into your wardrobe will help you put a fashionable, if not regal, foot forward. What are your thoughts about rocking such a piece?
